Investment in sports is more than 20 percent of the world revenue. The year was full of wow and blow moments in sports. Some of the incidents were mind-boggling, heart ruling and some of them are of heartbreaking.



Starting with Football:

TOP MOMENTS

○Thai teen players trapped in a cave for 9 days was heartbreaking, fortunately, they were rescued successfully but A Navy SEAL working with an international rescue team to save a soccer team stuck in a cave in Thailand loses his life.
○Tiny nation Croatia reached in FIFA final world cup and lose to France in Final.
○The rise of Luka Modric, Kylian Mbappe of Croatia and France respectively. They overshadow the dominance of legends Messi and Ronaldo.
○Ronaldo's move to Juventus
○Jose Mourinho's expulsion from Manchester United shocked everyone.

LAWN TENNIS:

This decade is the golden era for lawn tennis. There are master players like Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Rafal Nadal, Andy Murrey, Nishikori, Cilic.
Even in Women side players are solid: Carolina Wazarincka, Simona Halep, Angelique Kerber, Naomi Osaka, Sarena Wiliams, Muguruza, Sharapova.

○ This year Roger Federer won the heart by setting the world record by claiming 20 grand slam title and ranked number one in ATP becoming an oldest(36 years)player to be rank number 1.
○Rafal Nadal clinched 11th Roland Garros title.
○Comeback queen Sarena Williams just after 10 months from maternity and playing Wimbledon finals melted the heart

BADMINTON:

○PV Sindhu: She became the first Indian to have clinched the World Tour title defeating Japan's Nozomi Okuhara in the 2018 World Tour final.
○Japanese Yamaguchi won the Asian Gold in Jakarta.

CHESS:

○Magnus Carlsen continues his dominance and successfully retained the world chess championship fourth time beating American Grandmaster Fabiano Caruana

ASIAN GAMES:
○China topped the medal tally with 132 gold.

AUSTRALIAN OPEN 2019:NOVAK DJOKOVIC beats RAFAL NADAL in men's final.

Champion NOVAK DJOKOVIC won seventh AUSTRALIAN open title by defeating clay court master Rafal Nadal. The Serbian world number one dominated the Spanish second seed Rafa to win his 15th grand slam. He scripted world record by winning seventh times Australian open. The previous record was of Legend Roger Federer and Emerson each of 6 titles. He said this is his best ever grand slam final lasting only 2 hours and 15 minutes. These to legends holds the record of longest playing in grand slam final of almost 6 hours that was in 2012. He became emotional after winning the grand slam. He credited friends, family and his supporters for this massive success.  Hope Rafa will come back strongly in French open 2019 that will be held in late May.
